Good news! We finally finished up shopping for little man this week and it feels so good that he has all the necessities he needs for his first three months of life- I've got the diapers and wipes stock pile to prove it! When picking the things I felt were absolute necessities, I of course went with what fit into our budget- but also what was going to be FUNCTIONAL for us during the newborn phase. While shopping around, I realized there were some things I didn't/ wanted to buy before my baby comes just because it wasn't needed right away. Surprisingly, I've found some of these items are noted over and over by many blogs and big name brand companies with registry guides that claim these items are must haves. I'm here to tell you mama that you can go without and still be ok! Check out these three things I'm not buying for my baby and why you honestly shouldn't either.
- Baby Carrier: I was so close to picking up a baby carrier because why not right? I had a hard time deciding which one I wanted, there are so many! Should I go with the soft and stretchy or the sturdy and formfitting? For me, it was just too soon to tell which one my baby would like before he got here. Most baby carriers are not cheap and for the price point it wasn't worth it to make a splurge and end up regretting it later. My advice? Wait for baby to get a little bit bigger and try some carriers out in store. With this method I can see which one he may be into more... who knows, I may not even need one! If you happen to be shopping around for one, check out this ADORABLE baby carrier I've been having my eye on for a while from Petunia Pickle Bottom. It's super cute and looks like something my little man may be interested in!
- Nursing Cover: This item is one of the ones that I feel is not really a necessity just because you can use so many other things that work exactly the same as a pricey nursing cover. My cover of choice is just a simple swaddle blanket (I've already collected so many!) that I can tire around my neck and nurse comfortably and modestly from there. Try out the cheaper version first with using a blanket of your choice, if you find you're not really into it- go ahead and spend the dough on a cover for yourself. That way you'll know that it was truly worth it for you.
- Toys: With any baby in the newborn stage the only concern for them is eating, sleeping and pooping. I'm not buying toys for my son anytime soon just because he won't be able to actively engage with them until he's a bit older. I'm saving myself the money and waiting to see what things he may be into as he grows up- trust me your little one will be into toys soon enough! For now, enjoy the time engaging in social interaction and talking with your baby or reading stories- I'm sure just seeing your face will be entertaining enough for them too!
