Ice Cream, Holiday Shopping & A Fussy Baby (Storytime) (Blogmas Day 5!)

Hey y'all!
Welcome to Blogmas Day 5! I thought it would be cool to talk about the fun outing we had yesterday that includes ice cream, shopping and a fussy baby. Grab yourself a warm cup of something yummy and snuggle up on the couch for this fun storytime!

Yesterday my husband Shawn and I went out to the store to pick up a few things for Christmas. I'm not going to lie, we don't have much this year to go all out but with what we do have, we wanted to spend it getting something small for each other and our son. We packed up the car and headed to our local HEB Plus (a grocery store for all y'all non Texas folk out there) that not only has food but clothes, electronics, shoes and all things Christmas. To us it was the perfect place to get a few things without going crazy on our budget. My mom was ever so kind to watch Isaiah for us while we went out.  It's not that I didn't want him to come... I just didn't feel like packing a huge diaper bag and lugging it around with me. Shout out to my momma, she's the real MVP! So we get to the store and pick out our stocking stuffers for the family, grabbed wrapping paper and tape, got gifts for Isaiah and then for each other! Though we came to the store together, my husband and I split up to find each other a gift. I found his gift pretty early and bolted to the checkout line before I had the opportunity to run into Shawn. I quadrupled bagged my items so it was peek proof too! After I paid, I was waiting around for a while- Shawn was done his shopping a few minutes later and he called so I could meet him by his checkout line. I noticed what really took so long... he made a detour in the ice cream aisle! Needless to say we got a gallon of ice cream for him to eat. He still managed to pick out a gift though. After arriving back home my mom told me that Isaiah had been fuzzy the entire hour. Lately, he's been a bit more whiny and very clingy. I wasn't sure what was going on since it's not really lie him to be a bother. I later found out today he's going through his first developmental leap- if you have the wonder weeks app y'all know what I'm talking about! We're loving him through it with lots of cuddles - I actually don't mind the extra snuggles hehe. I posted on my instagram a photo of the gorgeous wrapping paper we got for our gifts. I am OBSESSED with anything plaid or buffalo check this holiday season- I absolutely love it. Anywho, when we got home I grabbed Isaiah and put him in the moby wrap and we got to working on wrapping our gifts (of course not in front of one another). I gotta say we had a really fun time and the gifts never looked better sitting under our tree. We have a bit more shopping to do next week and that actually reminds me that we need to get more of this wrapping paper because we ran out (haha!) Is there a holiday trend or color you are absolutely loving this season? Share with me what you're liking in the comments below!

We ended our night with trying to get mr. fussy down to bed and my husband eating his ice cream with a fork- don't ask me why... I still have no idea why a spoon isn't good enough for him 🤣. Our Christmas movie of choice was Elf and it was a perfect day. Who else is doing there holiday shopping now- I don't know why but i feel like I'm getting things SO LATE in the game, we only have 20 more days to go!

Until next time,

3 Unique Hot Chocolate Combos To Try (Blogmas Day 4!)

Hey y'all!
Welcome to Blogmas Day 4!
We're just getting started with getting into full holiday mode on the blog. Today we're talking about something near and dear to my heart- chocolate! And not just any kind of chocolate- HOT CHOCOLATE. I got to be honest and mention I'm just slightly obsessed with this drink and all the different combos to can do to truly make it your own. There is just something about drinking a warm cup of hot chocloate on a chilly day makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I have three fun recipes lined up if you're looking to add some spice to your cup of cheer today. Let me know which one is your favorite in the comments below and tag your photos of the ones you make on Instagram!

First off, each cup of hot chocolate has to start off with a good base. I am loving this hot chocolate mix from Silly Cow Farms they come in lots of flavors and is really easy to make!

The Sweet & Salty: Make your hot chocolate base as usual. Mix in a tablespoon of caramel sauce and set to the side. Grab some pretzels and crush into mini pieces (the best way I know how is to throw those bad boys into a ziplock bag and crush with a cup) top you're hot chocolate with whipped cream, pretzel pieces and a bit of caramel drizzle.

The Peanut Butter Cup:  Just like the first recipe- make your hot chocolate base as usual.  Microwave a tablespoon of peanut butter for 30 seconds and stir into your hot chocolate base. Top this drink with whipped cream and peanut butter chocolate candy for cuteness

The Peppermint Twist:  Nothing new here, make your hot chocolate base as usual and add in 1 teaspoon of peppermint extract. Top this drink with cream, crushed peppermint candy and a mint leaf.

Which recipe is your favorite? Mines would be the first one, I love chocolate covered pretzels (yum!) I hope this post just made your night that much sweeter!

A COZY FAMILY NIGHT INDOORS- OUR FAMILY NIGHT ROUTINE (BLOGMAS DAY 2!)

Hey y'all!
Welcome to blogmas day 2! I wanted to bring something a little bit different today than you're traditional Christmas topics that you see; I thought it would explain our family night routine for the perfect cozy night indoors. Since we have a newborn, getting out isn't as easy as it sounds. Honestly, my husband and I spend most of our free time entertaining ourselves at home. Depending on the day our nights could go a bit differently but usually here is what we got going on!

6PM- Isaiah goes down for a nap (or we attempt to have him sleep) If he's nice this day, I use the spare time I have to get dinner started and the house tidied up a bit. Sometimes I have Isaiah in the moby wrap which he LOVES- I totally recommend it if you mamas have a baby that likes to be next to you like mines. Lately, I've been really liking soups, stews and casseroles for dinner. Basically anything I can make in crock pot or throw in the oven is a win win for me. Ain't nobody got time to be slaving over a hot stove! If you guys would like to see more recipe blogs let me know and I'll be happy to share some of my families favorite dishes with you.

7PM- Baby is still asleep (sometimes) and by this time I'm usually getting myself ready for bed with a shower and sliding into some fresh pajamas. I love hot chocolate in the evening too so I sometimes make myself a cup of that and spend some time reading my bible and journaling- My husband and I also take this time to eat dinner and clean up!

8PM- Isaiah is usually up by now- he's fed, and afterwards my husband and I give him a bath together. Isaiah HATES baths and literally screams at the sight of water so it takes two pairs of hands to give him a good scrubbing. Afterwards we put his pj's on and settle in for the night. I'm really trying to work on getting off of my cell and turning off my devices at 8pm so I can focus on the two people that mean the absolute most to me.

9PM- MY FAVORITE TIME OF THE NIGHT we get Isaiah his last bottle to "top off", we all snuggle in bed together and watch a Christmas movie. We just started this tradition and I love piling into bed and cuddling up together as a family. Afterwards we swaddle little man up, set him in his crib and crash for the night!

Our routine is pretty simple but it couldn't be more perfect. What is something you and your family do together during the holiday season? Any tips for fun holiday activities to do with a baby? Let me know in the comments below!

My Newborn Must Haves!

Hey Y'all!
I'm glad to be officially blogging now since I've taken a short break from just giving birth to my son. He'll be four weeks old in just a few days and I thought it would be fun to share what I used from the very beginning that really helped me- if any of you mamas out there have a newborn or are about to give birth hopefully this list can help you on what to grab for your little one.

Boppy Newborn Lounger: When we first brought Isaiah home, this was the first thing we put him in. I love this pillow for its portability purposes and for the fact that it's so plush and comfortable for baby. My son was born very tiny and he was able to nestle himself comfortable in here allowing me to have a few minutes to get other things done without holding him all the time.

Hats & Blankets: I had no idea I would actually be using as many hats and blankets as I did but I totally recommend picking up a few of these for your baby. Babies have a hard time retaining body heat in their small little bodies. The hospital we stayed in was so drafty and I always kept my son in hat and wrapped up in a fuzzy blanket to keep him warm whether inside or outside. This may be because I gave birth in November, but if you're having your babe in the fall or winter don't forget to grab yourself a few of these.

Avent Soothie Pacifiers:  When I was pregnant I bought Isaiah a Wubbanub on a whim and oh my goodness I am so glad that I did. He loves the Avent soothie pacifiers and was my husband and I's saving grace in the hospital. Honestly sometimes my baby is just fussy for any given reason and giving him his soothie puts him right at ease. Love how effective and affordable they are too!

Burp Cloths: This is an item I didn't think I would use at all and it turns out I have one of these bad boys in every corner of our home. I use these during Isaiah's feedings, burping sessions and for uexpected spit up moments. I have a bunch because we go through them like crazy- very helpful and a HUGE laundry saver.

Auto Rock N' Play: Let me just say this item SAVED MY LIFE. I actually didn't use his rock n' play immediately after we came home from the hospital, he actually just started liking it recently. For some reason he's gotten into the habit of not really wanting to sleep during the day UNLESS it's in the rock n' play so putting him in this allows me to get things done. Get the auto rock n' play so you don't have to manually rock it. You can thank me later!

Burt's Bees Baby Bee Diaper Cream: When Isaiah was about two weeks old he got a REALLY bad diaper rash where I had to send for help on instagram because I literally had no idea what to do 😅😅 I happen to find some diaper rash cream I picked up months before he was born and it worked wonders on his little baby booty. I later learned that this diaper rash cream has 40% zinc oxide that really helps soothe sensitive skin.

Playtex Vent Aire Bottles: Last but not least I have to mention these bottles! We started off at first with a super simple plastic bottle from Walmart. But we later on learned he was sucking in waaay too much air and caused him to have some serious stomach problems. We moved over to these bottles and they have helped a lot with his tummy discomfort, not too bad for pricing either- I would suggest giving these a try if your baby has been fussy from feedings.

What items have you absolutely loved during the newborn stage? I would love to hear what has worked for you!

BreastFeeding Struggles 😞

Hey Y'all!

Today's blog post won't be very long, just wanting to share what's been on my heart for the past few days; hoping to gain some encouragement through the mom blogging community on the topic of low milk supply after a c- section. My son will be three weeks old this coming Wednesday and with careful consideration, my husband and I had made the decision to allow Isaiah to be exclusively formula fed. Before I became pregnant and even in the early stages of having my son here on earth's side with us I've never had a doubt in my mind that I wouldn't be able to breast feed for any reason. In fact, before my son was born I went out and got all of the things it took to make my breastfeeding journey a success. It breaks my heart writing these words now because I wanted nothing more than to be able to nurse my son for a year like I had intended. If you've read my Labor and Delivery Story you would know how I had to have a c-section due to labor complications. I have it linked above it you  haven't had a chance to read it- I go into more detail about what happened that day. After my surgery I had a hard time producing milk. Those first few days in the hospital were brutal for my son and I. I attempted to nurse him for 30-45 min each side only to have him screaming afterwards. A meeting with a lactation consultant confirmed my milk supply was non existent. She assured me that in a few days it would come flooding in- but it never did. On top of all of this, I was groggy and in pain- It was hard for me to sit up and hold my son from my constant incision pain. Isaiah had a strong latch that would bring me to tears every time he fed- it got to the point where he even popped a blood vessel in my left breast causing blood to form in my colostrum! One night during our hospital time I asked the nurse for formula. I knew my child wasn't getting what he needed and I wanted him to be fed. I couldn't figure out why my milk was taking so long to come in- I didn't have any more than a few drops during our hospital time and even after only was able to pump 1.5- 3oz in one setting. Focusing on recovering plus dealing with a newborn created a recipe of total exhaustion- I couldn't even LOOK at my breast pump, let alone fathom the thought of being hooked up for a half hour, sitting in an uncomfortable position that would make my incision throb. Being Isaiah's main care taker while my husband works throughout the week also causes for little time to sit down and pump. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I would have to stop mid session to tend to my baby's needs. I feel guilty for being tired and wanting to sleep more than to pump milk for my child.  I feel like my body had betrayed me for forcing me to recover instead of making milk. Though I have tried boosting my supply with supplements ultimately I've came to the conclusion that I'm just not making enough and  my baby being fed is whats best for him, even if it is just formula. I'm hoping to be able to connect with other c-section mommas in hopes in hearing your stories and how you felt feeding your babies post-op. I've tried researching the correlation between c-sections and low supply. There are similar stories to mines out there, just curious if anyone else has experienced the same thing? Let me know below your story!

On a final note If you tried to breastfeed and it didn't work out, know that you're efforts mean so much. Sometimes, some things just don't work out and that's ok... acceptance is key. Make the most of the situation you have now. Stay encouraged, and remember feeding your baby is most important! You're still rockin' motherhood one bottle at a time.

Our Baby Shower: Welcoming Baby Isaiah Island Style!

Hey Y'all!

Or should I say, aloha!
I'm finally getting around to sharing all about my baby shower that happened last Sunday in sunny Austin, TX. The day started out pretty chilly but it ended up warming up and the weather was beautiful; it was a great day to have some fun. My husband and I are big fans of the island life and wanted to bring a little bit of that to Texas in October. Below I'm sharing a few snapshots from our day - we really had a great time! Our event was filled with our closest family members at Blenders & Bowls which is an Acai Cafe that makes healthy fruit flavored bowls topped with things like granola, coconut shreds and honey.

A sun fact about my husband and I is that we're vegetarians, so we wanted a place that shared our love for healthy eating with others and if I do say so myself we totally found it. The wonderful staff set up a buffet for us for everyone to grab a bowl and fill it with as many toppings as they wanted. We also had fruit and veggies, sandwiches, chips and the super sweet "IZZE" drinks that I LOVE. Everyone loved the bowls, not to mention they are super cute (picture of the yumminess below!)

We mostly ate, but we did get into some fun games that everyone had some great laughs over. One of my favorites was the "Make A Baby" game where each guest had two minute to construct a baby from play dough and give it a name. My sister ended up winning (ha!) her baby was so cute! Everyone did a great job and I had fun seeing everyone get into playing. We also had a good time creating Isaiah's first ABC book where we drew pictures to match letter cards for little man to look back on when he's older. This was not only a lot of fun but really helpful since we plan on homeschooling our son- he'll know his ABC's in no time!

We got some really great gifts and are so grateful to everyone who poured into our family that afternoon.  I couldn't have asked for a better turn out - a big thank you to everyone who attended, we are so blessed to have you in our lives!

Until Next Time,

- XO Naj

What's In My Hospital Bag? What I Packed For Our Hospital Stay (Mom, Dad + Baby!)

Hey Y'all!
We're already full swing into October and this girl is officially 37 weeks pregnant! I thought it would be fun to share what I packed for the family in our hospital bags. I must admit that I've had our bags packed for some time now and wanted to share everything I tossed inside for baby, my husband and myself to maybe help some of you out who are looking for things to add for yourself. If you are in your third trimester, hopefully this list will be helpful for you. On delivery day, my husband and I are bringing two bags with us- our shared duffel bag and little man's diaper bag. For trips I like taking the minimalist approach to things and only like bringing the items that I know I will for sure use; so this new adventure of ours is no exception. There are a couple of things we are taking with us that can't fit into our bags or will be bringing along last minute since we use them already so often that I'll go ahead and list right now:

  • Pillow and Blanket (For My Husband)
  • Two Warm Jackets For My Husband And I
  • Cell Phones and Chargers
  • Headphones
  • Purse, Wallet and Keys // Insurance Information and Personal Paperwork
  • Warm Baby Blanket
  • Car Seat (Already Installed!) and Car Seat Cover

The rest of our things are already packed in the car and ready to go when needed. Let's start with baby's bag first. I didn't want to bring too much for our son mostly because I've watched and read how so many moms over packed after their hospital stay expirence was long over. Here's what I  ended up bringing him:

  • Swaddle Blanket
  • 2 Newborn Hats
  • Coming Home Outfit (0-3 Months Size)
  • Newborn Diapers (For The Ride Home)
  • 1 Pack Of Unscented Baby Wipes
  • Wubbanub
  • Hand Sanatizer
  • Tissues
  • 1 Pair Of Newborn Socks
  • Booties
  • 1 Pair Of Scratch Mittens
  • Gripe Water
  • Breast Pads
  • Nipple Cream
  • Baby Ointment
  • Coconut Oil

For myself I knew I wouldn't care too much about changing into different outfits during my hospital stay - so I pretty much packed a bath robe, socks, a few pairs of underwear, a nursing bra and a going home outfit for myself as far a clothing goes. Unfortunately, my husband will be bouncing back from the hospital to work during our two day stay so he has two pairs of pajamas and work clothes as well as a casual t-shirt to wear for himself- of course including socks and underwear too! I went to Target a few weeks ago and got some travel sized toiletries so we wouldn't have to worry about bringing full sized bottles with us to the hospital to shower.  These included:

  • Toothbrushes
  • Toothpaste
  • 2 Mini Body Washes
  • 2 Mini Deodorants
  • Moist Face Wipes
I am also bringing along two bath towels, washcloths, some hair and a few makeup products for myself. I know makeup isn't a major necessity but personally I know there will be pictures and I want to look a bit put together for the sake of me looking back on them in a few years! Want to know something out of the ordinary I'm bringing as well? A garbage bag! For dirty clothes 😉 Not too worried about forgetting something, grateful the hospital we will be delivering at is not too far from our home so my husband can always run back and grab something if needed. Fingers crossed, hopefully not! Let me know in the comments below what you are bringing with you to the hospital. Please share any tips you may have- I'm a first time mom and would love some help!

My At Home Pamper Routine (Pregnancy Edition) Featuring ImPress Nails + A DIY Face Mask Recipe!

Hey Y'all!
I'm so excited to share my at home pamper routine today because I know I'm not the only one who #aintgottime to go to the spa and spend loads of money. Um, no.

I'm in the home stretch with my pregnancy and more than ever, find it a necessity to wind down and relax before the baby gets here-  Below is my play by play on how I get pretty and most importantly take time for myself as a momma to be so I can in turn be the best version of myself for my family 💙 I'm currently on maternity leave and have the most time in the afternoon so I find that this is the best time for me to take a few hours and treat myself to some pampering. I start off my routine with my hair and applying a hair masque to help moisturize my dry, tangled strands- I love Shea Moisture  products and always find myself going back to my original love the Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment that I have been using for literally FOREVER. I've tried a bunch of other Shea Moisture deep treatments but this one would have to be my favorite. I apply this all over my damp curly hair and allow it to soak in all of the goodness for about 30-45 min with a plastic cap. While I wait for my hair masque, I then move on to applying my DIY facial that I whipped up with ingredients found right in my kitchen; super easy and you'll only need three ingredients:
a ripe avocado
1/2 banana
1tsp of olive oil.

Blend, blend, blend and apply it all over dry skin. I love this face mask for its hydrating properties- my skin feels so smooth after I leave it on for about 15 min to work it's wonders. Now that I'm waiting on two things to finish, I take this time to pop in some headphones and listen to some relaxing music or an audio book to help pass the time. You can usually find me reclining on my bed at this point; eyes closed and really taking this relaxation thing to a new level. Seriously, it's so needed y'all! If listening to something isn't what that I'm feeling for the day, I then would use this time to do a quick manicure on my nails using one of my new favorite things: The ImPress home manicure kit. My sister recently introduced me to the ImPress Nail Kits that you can pick up at your local Walmart, Target or CVS to get a quick, long lasting nail look that won't break the bank. I had my first set installed by myself and it took barely fifteen minutes to press on. The nails feature a patented adhesive that is stronger than any at home glue I have yet to experience. I have done countless sinks full of dishes, laundry, messy dinner meals, showered and yes... these nails are STILL on. Each set comes with thirty nails and six accent nails to customize the look you want; the nail colors and designs are so cute! This is not a sponsored post, but just to help my fellow mammas out you can go on their website and sign up for their email list to get 15% off  to help shake up your nail look during your next pamper day. Follow the link above to grab yo' discount!

Alright, so it's been a bit of time since applying my hair and face mask, so I go ahead and make my way into the shower to get everything rinsed off. This part is pretty self explanitory with just rinsing your face and hair the best way you know how- I sometimes go ahead and wash my hair if I'm doing my pamper routine the same day as my wash day- it just depends! I have some favorites  to share when it comes to what I like to use on my skin to get it all squeaky clean. I've been really liking the Softsoap Coconut Scrub Body Wash and use it all over, it smells so good and it's great at exfoliating! For my face I like using the Shea Moisture African Black Soap Bar, it's been the best product I've found that can removing oil and dirt from my skin but dosen't leave it parched for moisture. I'm not really a "bubble bath" kinda gal but I'm sure some of you are and if taking a soak for a while gets you relaxed I've heard nothing but amazing things about the Lush Bath Bombs that can be tossed into your tub before you get in. They smell good and really give you that spa like feeling right from home.

After getting out of the shower- I like to slather coconut oil all over my body, with special attention to my belly. I do unfortunately have stretch marks on my tummy- something that I think is completely hereditary to begin with but the oil still does a great job keeping my skin moist. I change into some comfy clothes and fuzzy socks and chill! At this point, my routine could end in a couple ways... with a nap, watching one of my favorite movies/ shows or munching on a snack with an uplifting book- even diving into the word of God and worshiping is one of my favorite ways to find a renewing for my heart, mind and soul. Find what puts you in a relax mode and stick with that. Let your family and friends know your taking a mental break for a bit and turn that phone on silent for a while.

Comment down below and let me know what is your favorite way to relax or some of your at home pamper treatments? I would love to get some more ideas!

Fall Maternity Photo Shoot- Celebrating "Our Little Pumpkin"

Sharing some of the beautiful maternity photos we had the pleasure of taking Sunday, October 8th!
Special thanks to my friend Leah for capturing such a special moment for us (😄) It was a super hot day last Sunday here in Texas, shout out to my husband who was such a champ with standing out in the sun- two locations and a lot of mosquito bites later we gained some really gorgeous pictures. Enjoy!
